Recent Work

Haven't updated in a while so here we go! (beware, it's a long one)

Recently, I've been working on a lot of personal projects.  First is a series entitled "Driving in My Car (Whoever You Are)"

"Mother Mary"

I am in my car most of the day, traveling to work, shows, etc. and usually for a long period of time.

"Coastin'"

Lately, I am always feeling the need to create, and cannot always make the time for it; and so the series was born.  All photographs are taken with manual focus, manual settings and no post processing, to keep it interesting ;)

"Clockout"

This project so far has been good for me to let loose and not be so uptight when I'm photographing.

2014 for me thus far has been full of positive changes.  I stopped taking photography seriously for a while, enough so that it got to the point that I wasn't taking photos hardly ever.  It seemed like more of a chore than something I enjoyed doing, but as I'm evolving and growing as an artist, I've learned to overcome my fear of every photograph having to be perfect.  I know my limits and I've slowly been pushing them, accomplishing more.

"Piper - May 30th, 2014"

Since the first of the year, I made a vow to myself to only take photos of people/things that I enjoyed.  When the pressure is off, I feel like I can really expand and grow as an artist.

"Within You"

"Untitled"

I think the fact that I have my camera out with me at all times lately makes people hesitant.  They are always concerned with how they look, or that they "aren't photogenic."  Jess is getting used to me ;)

"Promiseland"

So is Jacob.

"Bonfire: 4-18-14"

"Mischief"

Ok, pretty much everyone is getting used to it.  There are a few people I still need to work on.

This year, I also photographed my first real "gig!"  Thanks to Arythma for the stage pass hookup at Pop's for their last show before Pointfest.  They won the battle for main stage!

"Praise"

"Solo"

Being on stage for this event was such a huge adrenaline rush.  The crowd was loving Arythma and the entire vibe happening in the venue was something I can't put into words.  Hopefully this experience can help guide me on the path I am taking in pursuing concert photography.

"Kadence"

I've also been painting with light and using it as a tool in my photographs.

"Moonlight Drive: Part 1"

"Moonlight Drive: Part 2"

"Moonlight Drive: Part 3"

One last photo for this post: This one was a complete "happy accident" photograph.

"Cause once in a while, you get shone in the light
In the strangest of places, if you look at it right."

More work coming soon!

"Where Is My Mind?"

So I started an encaustic transfer project that actually turned out the way I wanted it to, for once.  It's not finished though, but here are some photos of it in progress.

I'm thinking of adding some wire to it.  The photo is of my friend Brendan.

The piece is entitled "Where Is My Mind?"  This concept basically came from the struggles I've had with mental illnesses and the feeling of sometimes literally losing my mind.  I know a lot of people can relate to this, so I created this piece to portray that sometimes our minds are just a mess, a mass of confusion and utter chaos.  The colors represent the different moods we all deal with, and how they sometimes blend together and we feel them all at once.

Feedback is appreciated :)
